Winter Palace in St. Petersburg - the former imperial palace in the heart of St. Petersburg ( Palace Embankment , 38) ; from 1732 until March 2, 1917 the official winter residence of Russian emperors. From July to November 1917 served as the seat of the Provisional Government.

 

The current building of the palace (fifth ) was built in 1754-1762 by the Italian architect Rastrelli . An architectural monument of Elizabeth's magnificent baroque.

 

In 1918, part , and in 1922 all the building was transferred to the State Hermitage .The Winter Palace and Palace Square ensemble form a beautiful modern city and is one of the main objects of domestic and international tourism.
