Iversky Svyatoozersky Virgin Monastery - Orthodox Monastery of the Russian Church , founded by Patriarch Nikon . Located on the island Selvitskom Valdai Lake in the Valdai region Novgorod region , 10 km from the town of Valdai.
Located on a narrow spit of a lake , the monastery is visible from the shores of fine Valdai.Despite the fact that this place has become quite popular with tourists, there does not leave a feeling of almost complete isolation from civilization. The monastery was laid in 1653 , before construction of the New Jerusalem Monastery , by Patriarch Nikon , who became just the patriarch of all Russia.Currently serving the monastery is under the auspices of the Prime Minister of Russia, and its restoration is entirely funded from the federal budget.
May 5, 1997 decree of Archbishop Leo was appointed vicar of the monastery , Archimandrite Ephrem ( Barbinyagra ).In June 2002 he was replaced , and November 25, 2007 decree of Patriarch Alexy II Ephraim reinstated , which remains to this day .
January 11, 2008 for the consecration of the restored Assumption ( Iverskogo ) cathedral monastery was expected to arrive to Patriarch Alexy II .January 12th Patriarch of the Divine Liturgy in the cathedral church of Iveron (Temple received his early initiation ) of the monastery , before completing the consecration rite of the Small Council. After the liturgy, Patriarch made a prayer service , attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin .
