In the 70s of the XIX century merchant Berg organized a paid library , but he soon sold it to another undertaking , and in 1884 the library bought the Mist . After the death of the owner, according to his will , was opened October 14, 1890 a free library ( named SBTumanov ), numbered 5000 books .
In 1921, the Central Library was established Crimea.
In 1956, the 100th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Franko library was named after the writer.
