St. Stephen's Cathedral (German: Stephansdom) is a department of the Vienna archbishop and one of the most important religious buildings in the capital of Austria.
St. Stephen's Cathedral has witnessed many important events in the history of the country and its colorful tile roofs have become one of the most recognizable symbols of the city .
The cathedral is built of limestone , its length - 107 meters ( 350 feet ) wide , 40 meters (131 feet) in height , 136 meters (445 feet). For centuries , the accumulation of soot on the church gave her a black color , but recent restoration projects taken back the building of the original white color .
St. Stephen's Cathedral has a great body.The first body was mentioned already in 1334. After a fire in 1945 badly damaged organ and Michael Kaufman completed his rehabilitation in 1960. As a result, the cathedral appeared large electric organ with 125 votes , with 4 manual and more than 9000 pipes. All this is financed by public funds.In 1991, the choir organ was built by Austrian firm Rieger . This is a mechanical organ , with 56 votes and 4 textbooks.
