Patriarchal Cathedral in Pitsunda in honor of the Apostle Andrew. Built in Pitsunda ( Pitiunt ) at the beginning of X century during the reign of the Georgian King Bagrat III of the House of Bagration is the nephew of the last king of Abkhazia Theodosius.
Pitsundsky cathedral in the middle of the X century became the Department of Abkhaz Catholicos .Here there were elections Catholicos-Patriarch of Abkhazia , the ordination of bishops. In XI - XV centuries, the cathedral has repeatedly renewed . In the XVII century , under threat of attack by the Turks, the Dept. of the Catholicos of Abkhazia moved to Gelati ( Georgia) , the cathedral was abandoned.
In the second half of the XIX century the cathedral was rebuilt and dedicated to the Assumption.
In the present cathedral is located in a concert hall and the organ.

In the temple, a magnificent acoustics .In 1975 there was an organ , an organ created by the Potsdam Alexander Shouk . At present, the temple is a concert hall, and over the ancient arches of the church heard the solemn fugue by Bach, are performances of the choir and opera singers , attracting many fans here of classical music.
