The idea of a museum of sculpture originated in 1991 when the Moscow government to address the monuments were dismantled Communist figures - such as Stalin, Sverdlov, Dzerzhinsky, Kalinin and others. Many of these monuments were created by outstanding sculptors of the era of the USSR - E. Vucetic, Mukhina , S. Merkurov .To dismantle the monument from all over Moscow were brought on the Crimean embankment and installed in the Park Art Association Museon Moscow .
The official date of foundation of the Museum of Sculpture in the open is January 24, 1992 , when the mayor of Moscow Yuri Luzhkov signed a decree on the establishment of the museum.Today in the museum's collection of about 700 unique sculptures made of stone, wood, bronze and other materials. To the sculpture of the Soviet period, added the work of contemporary Russian sculptors - V. Buynacheva , D. Tugarinov , A. Smirnov, and many others. In addition, the museum displays works of young talents.
Such open-air museums exist in many countries , but the Moscow Museum of Sculpture is interesting in that it collected the works of Russian sculptors from different generations , made in a variety of artistic styles.
The museum consists of three main sections - historical, contemporary and children .In the historical section of many exhibits dedicated to military issues .
The park regularly hosts children's events, exhibitions of paintings , sculptures and flowers. Tradition of the museum became an annual symposium on sculpture , during which new works are created directly in the park , in front of visitors.
