Michael the Archangel Cathedral - the oldest stone church in Nizhny Novgorod, is the story of the founding of the city. In 1221 was made of wood, and in 1227 - the white-stone cathedral. Rebuilt in 1359. April 23, 1628 under the guidance of architects Lawrence Semenov and stepchild Antipas began construction of the existing building.Restoration was carried out in memory of the Nizhny Novgorod militia and was completed in 1631.
In 1704, during a fire Kremlin Archangel Cathedral was damaged. Services were resumed March 18, 1732 , the church was consecrated again in Nizhny Novgorod Archbishop Pitirim .
In 1962 , following a restoration of the cathedral was transferred dust Kuzma Minin .
March 16, 2009 as a gift to Michael the Archangel church members from the Legislative Assembly of Nizhny Novgorod have been transferred nine bells. March 26, 2009 at the bell tower was installed the largest of the bells of the cathedral - lawyer , weighing 530 kg.
In September 2009, visited the church , Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, Kirill . Patriarch paid tribute to the patriot Kuzma Minin , the ashes of which rests the cathedral, and made a doleful litany . In memory of his visit , he gave the Cathedral of Kazan icon of Mother of God.
