The airport was built in 1944. Has long been used as a military airfield of the Armed Forces of the Soviet Union. Later came the need for a civilian airport . So , in 1960, Nicholas airport was reoriented to the airport of Civil Aviation.Over time, recorded a steady increase in passenger traffic, and with it the growing burden on the airport. Therefore, in 1975 built a new runway .
