Moscow State University named after MV Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU ) - one of the leading and largest universities in Russia , the center of the national science and culture, one of the oldest universities in Russia.
MSU has nine research institutes , 40 departments and more than 300 departments and a number of foreign affiliates ( including Switzerland and Azerbaijan).
The university has 32,500 students and 4500 graduate students , doctoral candidates and 10 000 students a preparatory department, a total of about 47 thousand people.In the faculties and research centers have 4000 faculty members , about 5000 researchers. And auxiliary staff has approximately 15 000 people. Since 1992, the rector of Moscow State University is the Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences , Academician Viktor Antonovich Sadovnichy .
In 2008, MSU went up to 70th place in the Academic Ranking of World Universities . According to international rating in Times Higher Education 2009 MSU takes place in the list of 155 universities in the world [2].
The University has at its disposal more than 600 buildings , including the main building on Lenin ( Sparrow ) Hills.Their total area is about 1 million m ². In Moscow alone, the area occupied by MSU, is 205.7 hectares. The new campus, a dedicated component of the Government of Moscow and 120 ha since 2003 is actively built . In 2005 the building was built Smart Center - Main Library . September 1, 2007 , Moscow Mayor Yuri M.Luzhkov and the rector of Moscow State University VASadovnichii inaugurated just two large and significant for the university building. Opened the first academic building at the Lomonosov Moscow State University Avenue , which moved in three departments: History, Philosophy and the Faculty of Public Administration .
