The Moscow State Conservatory named after P. Tchaikovsky (CIM ) - the highest musical institution in Moscow , the second since the founding of a conservatory in Russia ( 1866). Along with the St. Petersburg Conservatory is one of the leading music schools of the country .
Nikolai Rubinstein founded the Moscow Conservatory in 1866based organized by him in 1860 with VA Kologrivov music classes of the Moscow branch of the Imperial Russian Musical Society ( IRMO ). From start to 1881 , he remained the director of the Conservatory, a professor of piano class and student conductor of the orchestra.Later as Director of the Conservatory occupied : Sergei Taneyev (1885-1889) , Safonov (1889-1905) , MM Ippolitov- Ivanov ( 1906-1922 ).
Funding Conservatory conducted by the proceeds from the concert IRMO activities, as well as urban and government grants, donations from individuals and tuition fees.The course at the Conservatory until 1879 , he worked for six years, then was increased to nine years. He covered both music classes (instrumental , vocal, orchestral , choral, opera , theoretical ) as well as general subjects .
The building includes classrooms and concert halls, it was rebuilt out of the house of Count MSVorontsov 1895-1901 gg. VP architect and sculptor Zahorski AA Aladin . In 1932-1933 three-story building was built on the project , IE Bondarenko.

The structure of the Conservatory also includes post-graduate and post-graduate studies , problem research laboratory , the Museum named after NGRubinstein, opera studio and practice teaching sector with an evening of musical ten-year school , music and book collections , conservatory Scientific Library named after Sergei Taneyev and other educational and scientific institutions .
now works at the Conservatory of information and computer center , electronic laboratory record .
The Conservatory now has about 500 teachers, 1,500 students and graduate students, 500 technical and administrative staff.
