The first project was designed by the architect Francisco del Villar, the place which at the end of 1883 was invited byGaudi, significantly altered the original draft. This five-naval church is designed in the form of a Latin cross , formed by the intersection of the main nave with three naves transept. The unusually large size apse , beneath which lies the crypt , has seven chapels and bypass the gallery for the choir.The surrounding building facades kluatr connects all of the church : the south facade of the Passion of Christ , eastern facade of Fame and the northern facade of the Nativity. The construction topped with eighteen towers. Twelve of them, four on each facade ( the illustration shows all towers with white circles) in height from 98 to 112 feet , devoted to the twelve apostles.
fusiform bell towers , reminiscent of sand castles , determined by the structure inside spiral staircases. Each tower is dedicated to his apostle , the statues are placed at points of change in the shape of a square tower to the circular cross section.At the top of the towers Gaudi intended to place the tubular bells, jingle which will be combined with the sound of five voices and singers in 1500 , arranged by design architect on both sides of the longitudinal aisles and on the inner side of the facade of Fame.On each bell from the top down is the motto of the Almighty Praise , over which rise the steeples of polychrome decorated with stylized symbols of the episcopal dignity - Rings , Mithras, and the Rod Cross.
The decor of the widely used text of the liturgy, the Passion facade of the main gates are decorated with quotations from the Bible in several languages , including Catalan. The facade of Fame is supposed to decorate the words of the Apostolic Creed .
All of the interior is subject to strict geometrical laws .Round and elliptical windows and stained glass , hyperbolic vaults, helical stairs, many stars appear at the intersections of various ruled surfaces and ellipsoids pillar - this is an incomplete list of geometric decoration parts of the Temple.
