Wooden fortifications of the town and castle were built in the late XIV century. the first owner of Chartkovskim . After moving to the city of S.Golskomu on a hill above the river Seret begins rebuilding the ancient fortifications of the castle , being built of massive blocks of sandstone.
In 1610g . was reconstructed castle. Inside the courtyard was built by Renaissance palace with arcaded galleries and new business extensions.Because of constant attacks by the Tatars, repairs to the fort almost never stopped .
in 1648 . Chertkov became one of the epicenters of the National Liberation War of the Ukrainian people under the leadership of Bogdan Khmelnitsky. It arrived three Cossack regiments Maxim Krivonos . The urban militia headed by Severin Table furrier .The castle was stormed and captured a lot of the Polish gentry , led by Count Paul Potocki .
in 1699 . Potocki gradually regained his castle.
In the XIX - first half of the twentieth century. Castle has been used mainly for storage .
