The project is designed by the architect of the church Zaushkevichem commissioned by the Bulgarian community of the population of the city of Belgorod -Dniester .In 1813 , the Society appealed to Bulgarians Akkerman Exarch Tavria and Bessarabian governor Strudze to ask for permission to build a church in Akkerman of St. Demetrios the Great Martyr of the means of donations.Temporary church was opened in a converted non-residential new home in honor of St. George, was consecrated July 29, 1816 and ran until October 25, 1838 .
In 1840, at the same place was built the new Bulgarian church was designed by architect Zaushkevicha .The churchyard was enclosed with a stone fence with iron railings, inside is divided into four parts. In the middle of the courtyard stood the temple itself . In the north- west corner of the church was home , and in the northwestern part of the cemetery in which burial of priests , nobles and worthy people.Since 1934, buried in the cemetery ceased , and in 1949 the church was closed .
In 1962 the church was found buried. On the tombstone engraved text : wife of Field Marshal , His Serene Highness Princess Sophia G. Volkonskaia . His Serene Highness Prince Grigory Petrovich Volkonsky . Serene Princess Lydia A. Volkonskaia . .
Mrs. G. Volkonskaia ( 1785-1868 ) - daughter of the governor of Orenburg, Prince Grigori Semenovich Volkonsky , married a distant cousin of Peter Mikhailovich Volkonsky, received the Order of St. Catherine, in 1832 was granted in statsdamy .
By his own bequest was buried in Semenovka (Sejm) , and then in the city of Belgorod -Dniester . Gregory P. Volkonsky - her son was buried in Seymenah (1882), and then his wife reburied it in the Belgorod -Dniester . Lydia A. - his wife , by his own bequest was buried beside her husband .Mrs. G. and Lydia A. made the largest donation for the prosperity of the Bulgarian church.
A. Lydia donated to the church about half a million rubles (2 icons, candlesticks, silver crosses , plus 12 500 rubles in cash). Mrs. G. gave the rector of the church a large diamond.
Complete restoration of the church by the parishioners there from 1990 to 1995.
