Poltavskaya oblast
Poltava region , an industrial - agricultural area located in the east in the central part of the Left-Bank Ukraine.
At the time of Kievan Rus territory was part of Pereyaslavl principality . Here the rivers have been built for protection from Polovtsian fortress -city : Khorol ( 1084g. ) Pesochen ( 1092g. ), Gault ( 1095g. ) Lubno ( 1107g.) Piryatnn ( 1154g. ) Ltava ( 1174g. ) Lkoml ( 1179g. ), etc. After the Mongol invasion in the 14th century . Poltava region came under the rule of Lithuania ( 1362g. ), in the late 16th century. under Polish rule . After 1654g . with the Left-Bank Ukraine, these territories became part of the Russian Empire. Since 1775Poltava region is full of Novorossiysk province .
During the Northern War (1700- 21gg .) Territory of the region was the scene of hostilities between Russia and Sweden . In 1708g . Hetman Ivan Mazepa made an attempt with the Swedish King Karl XII liberate Ukraine from Moscow, but in the summer of 1709g .in the Battle of Poltava, both allies were defeated.
In the early 20th century in the industrial boom. It built factories food : macaroni and cheese factories, creameries , a large number of distilleries , etc.In the postwar years in Poltava region were explored large deposits of oil and gas, which gave rise to the development of oil and petroleum industries.
