Borispol

International ( the ancient name Letch , Lto , Olten ) , ancient town in the Kiev region, Ukraine , Boryspil district administrative center , located 28 km from Kiev.

The first mention of the town date from the beginning of XI century , when the princely strife ( 1015-1019 ) died on the river Alta son of Prince Vladimir , Prince Boris .

in 1117 on the site of the death of Prince Boris Monomakh built the stone church .

Letch was completely destroyed by the Mongols in 1239 .

C in 1508 , the territory passes into the possession of Boryspil Desert Nicholas Monastery , who owned it before the end of the XVI century. Apparently then the city got its present name.

C 1590 Borispol mentioned in documents as a Polish shtetl.

In 1596, the Polish King Sigismund III took Borispol royal property and has created Boryspilske starostva .

At the time of Polish rule Borispol received the Magdeburg Right .

During the Russian- Polish war of 1654-1667 Boryspil was repeatedly destroyed. After the war the territory ceded to the Borispol starostva the Russian state.

The symbol of the ancient city is the Boris and Gleb Church , a majestic building in Kiev sstoyaschee Way and named in honor of the demolished church princely times .

C 1965goda name Boryspil is generally associated with air gateway to the Ukrainian capital. It was built by an international airport, which is able to accept all types of aircraft.
